Acencion Garcia, 87, of Alpine, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, in Midland, TX.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic at Church with Mass to follow. Burial will follow at the Holy Angels Cemetery, Alpine TX.
Acencion was born June 2, 1935, in Castolon National Park, TX to Tubercio and Magdelena Silvas Garcia.
He grew up in Castolon, TX in the Magdalena House and made history by cutting the ribbon when the Magdalena House became a Historic Landmark, 1 ½ years ago.
Ascencion worked for the Texas Highway Department for 37 years, beginning that career in Lajitas, TX in 1961. He transferred to Terlingua and then in 1973, settled in Alpine, TX, retiring in 1995. He remained in Alpine until 2017 when he moved to Monahans, TX and then lived with his daughter, Dora Cobos.
He married the love of his life, Rosa Elva Aranda Garcia, in Mexico, in 1957. Acencion loved to travel, going out to eat with family, enjoyed being a cowboy and doing some fishing. He also loved to be with his family. He lived a very happy life.
Ascencion is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa, 2 twin daughters, Romma and Sylvia Garcia, sisters; Minga Garcia and Hosteria Chaeon, brothers; Pablo and Conrado Ramirez.
Acencion is survived by a son, Chon Garcia and wife Mireya of Monahans, 3 daughters; Dora Cobos and husband George of Monahans, Mercy Ramos and husband Rolent of Monahans and Saleme Garcia of Mexico, sister, Irene Garcia de Sivas and husband Reyes of Odessa, brother; Lucas Garcia of Ft. Stockton, 3 granddaughters; Bianca Guzman, Lisa Shuler and Marilyn Garcia, 8 grandsons; Sergio Fuentes, Joseph Fuentes, Chris Cobos, George Cobos, Jr., Robert Ramos, Jr., Lucas Ramos, Andrew Galvan and Jeremy Galvan and 22 great-grandchildren.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Sergio Fuentes, Joseph Fuentes, Chris Cobos, George Cobos, Jr., Robert Ramos, Jr., Lucas Ramos and Martin Guzman. The Honorary Pallbearer will be George Cobos.
