Aida T. Flores

September 10, 1930 — August 6, 2023

Alpine, Texas

It is with our deepest sorrow and heaviest of hearts, we share the news of the passing of our beautiful Aida Elisa Flores, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, whose presence graced our lives in countless ways.

She was born in Lawton, Comanche, Oklahoma, to Erasmo Torres and Juanita Fierro Arriola on September 10, 1930.   She was the oldest of her four siblings (Horacio Torres, Ofelia Molinar, Magdalena Valenzuela, and Carlos Torres) and the last living sibling to date.

At a young age, her family and siblings relocated to Chihuahua, Mexico before making Alpine, Texas their final destination.

She married Jose Flores February 23, 1949, after meeting him in Alpine while employed at the candy kitchen in the Holland hotel.  She soon became a mother and supported her husband as he opened his first business, Joe’s Body Shop.

She spent her early years of marriage in motherhood, raising her 7 children and keeping them active in the catholic faith, and volunteering in the community. She was well known in her community, as she was employed by Sul Ross University for over 20 years in the student center (former sub) and the Sul Ross Daycare in the infant room.

Aida had a servant’s spirit that shined through in all her vocations from being a wonderful cook to caring for babies.

She was a proud mom of 7 Alpine High School graduates and 5 Sul Ross college graduates. Aida was a familiar face supporting the school’s functions and athletic events, often even traveling to support Alpine in out-of-town events.

She was a self-taught woman from teaching herself how to read and write, to making beautiful quilts. She loved to always be a student. She was eager to learn, listen and push herself one step further in her education or for herself. She enjoyed being outside and had a love for plants and flowers.

She also enjoyed playing cards, visiting with her friends, exercising, traveling, and shopping. She loved to dress to the nines, wear her signature perfumes, apply make-up, get her hair done, and care for herself.  She had a fun collection of coins, unique finds at estate sales and antiques that she acquired over many years.

She was very proud of all her children’s accomplishments and successes and loved each dearly. Her children and grandchildren all have stories of Aida that are nothing short of fun and love.

In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her Alpine family, working at the Lights Beef Jerky, spending time working in the yard, traveling to visit her children, and being with her closest comadres.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Flores and daughter in law, Nora Flores (Ruben).

She is survived by her 7 loving children, Christina Gonzalez (Victor), Ruben Flores (Nora), Sylvia Rodriguez, Velma Valero (Joe), Joey Flores, Lisa Short (Glenn), and Nelda Flores, 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though we mourn her loss deeply, we find solace in the beautiful memories she leaves behind. Aida's spirit will forever guide and protect us, reminding us to be impeccable with our word, work hard, not waste time, and embrace each day with grace and gratitude. Her genuine and authenticity will forever remain etched in our hearts. She was full of sass, wit, grace, and grit.

Pallbearers include Victor Gonzalez, Ronnie Flores, Randy Flores, Dennis Flores, JR Rodriguez, Markie Rodriguez, Omar Rodriguez and Skyler Short

Her life was a testament to her endearing spirit, as she overcame numerous hardships with unwavering strength. Despite adversity, she embraced life with a steadfast resolve, providing an unwavering beacon of hope for her seven beloved children. Her love for them knew no bounds, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to nurturing, guiding, and supporting them through life's trials and triumphs.
