Alberto Vega born October 3, 1932, died November 9th 2016, with his loving family by his side in Uvalde, Texas
A man of many hats will be greatly missed but never forgotten. A loving husband, wonderful father, and one of a kind grandfather earned his place in the resting arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Alberto was born in Terlingua, Texas, son of Thomas and Luciana Vega, lived the majority of his life in Alpine, Texas where he truly took on the phrase "Whistle while you work!" He met the love of his life Lupe Luna of Alpine, Texas and a whirlwind romance began! Alberto and Lupe Luna were married on May 4th 1954. After sadly losing their first born son they proudly raised one son and two daughters and had the luxury of spending 62 wonderful years in marriage.
He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army on December 9, 1952. During his tour in the U.S. Army, he was deployed to Korea where he participated in the Korean War. While fighting in Korea he earned the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal. While deployed he spent one year and nine months fighting alongside his brothers in Bravo Company 430th Engineer Construction Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division and with pride and honor he wore that "hat".
He was a man that loved to hunt and fish and yearned to teach his kids and grandkids the art of both. Famous to his grandkids for his story telling abilities, love for scratching lottery tickets, and the "eagle eye" he had for his puzzle books. "Say not in grief he is no more but live in thankfulness that he was."
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Luciana Vega, son, Betito Vega and sister, Corina Muniz.
Survived by wife Lupe Luna Vega of Alpine, son, Henry and wife Clara Vega of Alpine, daughter, Rose and husband Pete of Midland, daughter Cynthia and husband Butch of Uvalde, Texas, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and twins on the way. His brothers, Thomas and wife Teresa, Palemon and wife Felicita, Joe Luis and wife Barbara, Romulo Vega, his sister, Herminia and husband Joe Covarubias, all Alpine, Texas, brother Chuy Vega of Grand Falls, Texas and numerous nephews and nieces.
In the words of (EL CHAVO) "Sleeping is a waste of time!"
Mourn for me not I'm only a whisper away for I've gone fishing, if you call my name I will be there.
