Augustn Martinez

Augustin Rice Martinez of El Paso and formerly of Marfa went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2013.

Rosary is at 7 p.m., Friday, January 31, and funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marfa. Burial to follow at La Merced cemetery. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Augustin was born August 26, 1953 to Luis and Margaret Martinez. He graduated from Marfa High School. After high school he worked for Colomos grocery store for two years before moving to El Paso. He worked for Diebold Inc. in El Paso as a locksmith. After he retired, he spent his time at the YMCA and taking computer classes.

Survivors include his mother, Margaret Martinez of Marfa two sisters, Veronica Campbell and husband Michael, and Margie Mendoza and husband Alonso, all of Marfa four brothers, Ben Louis Martinez and wife Maria of El Paso, Oscar Martinez and wife Mary Lou of Kerrville, Robert Martinez and wife Marian of Pueblo, Colorado, and Samuel Martinez and wife Michelle of Alpine also numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luis Martinez, Jr., and his sister Monica Cantu.

Augustin was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
