He enjoyed a distinguished career as a railroad conductor and brakeman for the Southern Pacific Railroad, serving the company for over 30 years. His dedication to his profession was matched by his deep involvement in his community and his passion for outdoor activities.
Bob was an active member of Grace Christian Church where he found great pride and fulfillment. His commitment to his faith played a significant role in his life, shaping his values and guiding his interactions with others.
In addition to his professional achievements, Bob had a zest for life reflected in his hobbies. He enjoyed team roping and once held the position of president of the Sanderson Roping Club, where he made lasting connections and friendships within the local community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, M. L. and Ona Ray Spence, and his brothers, O. B. and Damron "Buddy" Spence.
He is survived by his son, Bobby Spence, friends, and fellow community members who will remember him for his contributions and the joy he brought into their lives.
A funeral service in honor of Bob R. Spence will be held on November 16, 2024, at Grace Christian Fellowship Church, located at 801 E. Brown Avenue, Alpine, Texas, 79830. The service will begin at 10:00 AM followed by a concluding ceremony at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine, Texas.
