Catarina Acosta Martinez, born on April 14, 1940, in Marfa, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, in Alpine, Texas, just one day shy of her 85th birthday. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Catarina's life was a tapestry of love woven with threads of faith, generosity, and compassion.
Catarina graduated from Marfa High School and dedicated much of her professional life to serving her community. She worked at the Presidio County Courthouse and later at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, where she made lasting impacts on those she encountered. Her career was a testament to her commitment to the well-being of those around her.
Known for her nurturing spirit, Catarina welcomed all into her home. Her door was always open, and her generous heart was a sanctuary for family and friends alike. She found joy in the simplest moments spent with her sons and grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories. Catarina’s strong faith in God guided her through life's uncertainties and illuminated the path for those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Her unwavering commitment to her church was evident through her volunteer work at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marfa and her active participation in various church activities. As a member of the Catholic Daughters organization, Catarina embodied the ideals of charity and service, making a significant difference in her community.
Catarina is remembered with great love by her surviving family: her sons, Ruben Ervey Martinez and his wife Rosa Maria Martinez, and Mark Adam Martinez and his wife Rosie Webster Martinez; her granddaughters, Raven Martinez and Sienna Martinez; her grandson, Alan Granados; her brother, Saul Acosta and his wife Rita Acosta; her sister, Abigail Acosta; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever treasure her memory.
Preceding Catarina in death is a beautifully woven tapestry of loved ones she now joins in peace: her beloved son, Frank Jacob Martinez; her father, Tiburcio Acosta; her mother, Hermina Acosta; her brothers Antonio Acosta and Tiburcio Acosta, Jr.; and her sister, Teresa Acosta.
As we celebrate the life of Catarina Acosta Martinez, we remember a life full of love, faith, and unwavering devotion to family and community. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and her legacy will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to call her family and friend.
