Eliberto Franco, Jr.

February 4, 1965 — April 21, 2017

Eliberto "Bert" Franco Jr., 52, of Marfa passed away April 21, 2017 in Odessa following a courageous battle with cancer.

Bert was born on February 4, 1965 in Alpine to Eliberto Franco Sr., and Leonor Covarrubias Franco. Bert attended Marfa High School, and was a landscaper.

Bert, as his family and friends called him, was loving, kind, funny, and big hearted and had quite a sense of humor that could light up a room. He loved being with family and enjoyed time with them. He enjoyed spending time at his home with his family and his dog Thor who he adopted from a family member.

Bert was a self-taught electric and acoustic guitarist, who enjoyed playing and listening to hard Rock n Roll music by such artists as The Beatles, AC/DC, Kiss, Black Sabbath and many others. Music was his life and passion, and a passion that he loved very dearly.

Those left to honor and cherish the memory of Bert are his parents, Eliberto and Leonor Franco; his sisters, Annie Acosta and Elizabeth Valadez; and his brother, John Franco. Bert is also survived by three very special nieces that Bert treated like daughters and that he loved very much: Gracie, Blossom and Delilah Franco, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Two very special friends that meant the world to Bert are Eric Cash and Mario Serrano.

Bert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edwardo and Jesusita Franco and Jose and Ignacia Covarrubias.

Rosary for Bert was recited by Sister Margie the morning of Wednesday, April 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marfa, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial with Father Esteban Sescon serving as Celebrant. Burial was in Merced Cemetery in Marfa.

Those serving as pallbearers are Robert Valdez, Jessie Acosta, Aaron Acosta, Eloi Acosta, Marco Flores and Eric Cash. Honorary pallbearers are John Richard Franco, and Mario Serrano.
