Frances Cotten

With a grand and joyous entrance into Heaven to see her beloved Jesus, Frances Evangeline Cotton (fondly known as Miss Evan) entered eternal life on December 22, 2020 at Big Bend Regional Hospital in Alpine, Texas.  Mrs. Cotten had been a resident of Jeff Davis County since 1992.  Mrs. Cotten was 96.

Mrs. Cotten was born on December 14, 1924 in Sterling, Kansas to Chalmer and Mary Frances Patterson.  She later met and married the love of her life James Cotten in Beloxi, Mississippi on April 9, 1943.

Viewing for Mrs. Cotten will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Fort Davis with funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Terrell O’Brien officiating.  Burial will take place on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, Texas.

Mrs. Cotten was active in the Daughters of American Revolution, Vough Retirement Club, and Who’s Who of American Women.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Davis, where she served on various committees.  For 31 years, Mrs. Cotten worked as a computer programmer for Chance Vought Aircraft in Dallas, Texas.  Mrs. Cotten was very proud of the fact, that she held a master’s degree as well as post graduate work.

Mrs. Cotten is preceded in death by her beloved husband James “Jim” Cotten; parents Chalmer and Mary Frances Patterson; her brother Braxton Patterson.

Those left to honor and cherish the memory of Mrs. Cotten are her numerous distant relatives and so many beloved and cherished friends.
