June 11, 1963 — July 8, 2017

Genoveva "Genie" Gonzales, 54, of Marfa, Texas, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 8th, 2017, at Big Bend Regional Medical center surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life for Genie will be held on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 at 10:00AM at the Marfa USO.
Genie, was born on June 11, 1963, in Marfa, Texas, and was a lifelong area resident. Genie worked for the Hotel St. George in Marfa. She was actively involved as a firewoman, and a first responder with the Marfa Volunteer Fire Department in which she could bless the community of Marfa with her skills. Genie also blessed those in the community with helping in any way she could as well as being a friend to pets and animals, that otherwise would not have any advocates. Genie was actively involved with the New Beginnings Church of the Big Bend.
Genie is preceded in death by her parents Manuel Gonzales, Jr., and Elena Hernandez Gonzales.
Those left to cherish the wonderful blessed life of Genie are: her brother Gilbert Gonzales and wife Lorinda; her nephew: Christian Scott Gonzales; her niece: Brielle "Baby Dog" Gonzales; her aunts: Anita Hernandez, Alicia Rivera, Hortencia Montezana, and Linda Gonzales. All of Genie's very special cousins. Genie's special friends Jo Ann Salgado, and Crystal Juarez "Her Crazy Girl."
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes your contributions to the Marfa Volunteer Fire Department.
The Gonzales family has entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with arrangements.
