George Bentley, Jr., of Fort Davis, Texas, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Easter Morning, Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Big Bend Regional Medical Center, he was 90 .
Mr. Bentley was born on May 17, 1926 to Mr. George Bentley Sr. and Angelita Bonilla Bentley in Fort Davis, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Jeff Davis County.
Rosary for Mr. Bentley was recited by Sister Margie on Wednesday, April 19, at 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Davis, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 11:00 a.m. with Father Robert Kobe serving as Celebrant. Burial was at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Davis, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers were: Butch Acosta, Rafael Acosta, Fidel "Ito" Bentley Granado, Jr., Michael Fierro, Jr., George Bentley, IV, Astolfo Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez and John Louis Bentley.
Mr. Bentley was a carpenter by trade and loved to create items from wood. He would often be found making the Holy Rosary to give to family and friends, as well as making little red wagons that he would give to each of his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Bentley had a passion for music, he would play is guitar and sing with his wife Helen. he loved taking his wife to bingo and traveling to various family events throughout the country. Helen and George were married for 73. Mr. Bentley was skilled at making his famous skilled bread for his family and friends.
Mr. Bentley is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Eliseo Bentley.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen Dutchover Bentley, his children Gloria Bentley Acosta, Esperanza Bentley Granado, Mary Bentley Fierro, Elida Bentley Rodriguez, Terry Bentley, Susan Bentley, George Bentley, III and Juan (Johnny) Lewis Bentley, his sisters Amelia Dutchover, Manuela Granado and Consuelo Leyva, his brother Jose Bentley, and 23 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 6 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The Bentley family has entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with funeral arrangements.
