Helen Elizabeth McLean

Lifelong resident of Alpine, Elizabeth McLean, age 96, passed away on September 24, 2023. She was born to the late Kurt and Anna Lange in Alpine, on November 17, 1926. Elizabeth attended Alpine Schools and Graduated in 1943. She then attended Sul Ross State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters of Education.

Elizabeth met and married her husband of 54 years, the late Joe McLean in 1943. She is Survived by her 2 children, Clinnell McLean (Jerry) and Marshall Lange McLean. Grandchildren: Kiley McComb (Valerie) Krystel McComb Kiser, (Aaron) Kasey McComb, (Erin) Jody McLean, Wyatt McLean, (Alondra) Garrett McLean and Jillian Torres (William). Great-grandchildren, Amanda McLean, Kaylan Kiser, Kaz Kiser, Kendall McComb, Kyler McComb and William McLean.

Elizabeth began her career as a teacher in San Vicente School, Big Bend National Park, also taught at Centennial School Central Elementary, Alpine, and Marfa Elementary.

After retiring from Alpine Schools, Elizabeth enjoyed her many hobbies which included gardening, painting, making ceramics, and porcelain dolls.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Elm Grove Cemetery, Alpine TX, with Pastor Wendall Elliot conducting the services.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sunshine House and Alpine I.S.D. scholarships fund.
