A lifelong resident of Jeff Davis County, Jose Garcia, Sr. of Fort Davis passed away at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas surrounded by his loving family, he was 88.
Born to Chon Garcia and Carol Garcia (Dominguez) on August 3, 1929, Jose was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and a very hard worker. Jose was blessed to have met and married the love of his life Isabel Garcia early in life. The two married on July 10th, 1948, with this past July celebrating 69 years of wedding bliss.
Rosary was prayed by Deacon Paul Lister on Friday, October 27th, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Davis, with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated following rosary with Deacon Paul Lister serving as Celebrant. Burial followed at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Davis, Texas.
Pallbearers for Jose were Omar Garcia, Christopher Garcia, Billy Garcia, Daniel Huoy, Scott Huoy, and Joe Garcia.
Jose worked during his younger life on local Jeff Davis County Ranches. Jose wanted to offer his family more, so he moved his family into Fort Davis, an accepted a custodial job with Fort Davis I.S.D, in which he worked his way up to head custodian and served the students, facility, and staff of Fort Davis I.S.D for 27 years. Jose was still active as a hunting guide for local ranches. For over 20 years, Jose served as camp cook for the Camp Meetings held annually in Jeff Davis County, as well as was head of maintenance for Fort Davis First Baptist Church.
He enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife Isabel, until her death in September, they would enjoy spending time together underneath their pecan tree in their yard. Jose was an avid horseman, and enjoyed his walks for the courthouse to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, and the Houston Texans play football.
Jose is preceded in death by his beloved wife Isabel Garcia of 69 years, his parents Chon and Carol Garcia, and one son William "Billy" Garcia, and three brothers Johnny Garcia, Chon Garcia, and Ernesto Garcia.
Those left to cherish and honor the wonderful legacy of Jose are: his two sons; Joe Garcia, Jr. and wife Blasa, and Robert Garcia and wife Emelda; four sisters; Bertha Terrazas, Juanita Vigil and husband Leo, Enedina Lopez and husband Lawrence, and Mary Lee Hernandez and husband Juan. By his seven grandchildren: Bill Garcia, Joe Garcia, Linda Garcia, Lizzie Hernandez, Erica Garcia, Omar Garcia, and Christopher Garcia, as well as his eight great grandchildren: Billy Garcia, Crystal Garcia, Jaylon Abiles, Bella Ramirez, Joslyn Garcia, Savanna Torres, Keidan Garcia, and Kayli M. Garcia, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
