Judy Turner Sproul was called home to our Lord on November 9, 2021 at her home in Fort Davis, TX. She passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Judy was born February 23,1946 in Sweetwater, TX to the parents of Essie Mae and Everett Eugene Turner who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death, step-mother LaNelle Turner and step-brother Bill Headrick.
She graduated from Alpine High School and attended college at Sul Ross State University. Judy started working as a school teacher in 1979 in Fort Davis. After teaching there for many years, she then moved to Midland, where she taught Special Education, at both Midland Freshman and Midland High School. Judy was an amazing teacher, as well as mentor, cheerleading sponsor, and so much more. She was a Big Sister to a special young lady for over ten years in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Midland. She was a second mom to many!
Her interests included painting, drawing and other craft projects. After retiring from teaching, she honed her art skills and started selling her work online and in Fort Davis. She also loved teaching others to paint. She was most proud of being Gran to her five grandchildren. She had a beautiful way of making everyone, especially her grandkids, feel loved and respected. She had the patience of a saint and fiercely loved her family and friends.
She is survived by her ex-husband Robert McCann Sproul, her daughters Jennifer Sproul Whitesell and husband David Whitesell and Stephanie Sproul Rentfro and husband Joe Rentfro. She has five grandchildren, Tanner Whitesell, Trent Whitesell, Jonathan Rentfro, Everett Rentfro and Lila Rentfro.
Aside from her children and grandchildren she doted on, Judy is survived by her brother Everett Eugene Turner, Jr. and his wife Carol, step-sister Diana Taylor and her husband Larry, step-brother Carrie Headrick and his wife Mystré, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Judy loved to travel and had a great sense of adventure. She learned to scuba dive and went on many domestic and international adventures with great friends and family. She spent several months at a time over the years in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with Stephanie and her family. She was especially blessed to live in “Judy’s Line Shack” right next door to Jennifer and her family. The Line Shack and Judy, aka Gran, always served as home base for friends and family when in Fort Davis.
Funeral services for Judy will be conducted on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, 2pm at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fort Davis, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center, in honor of Judy Sproul, can be made at www.gi%s.mdanderson.org .
