Lucyana "Lucy" Morales of Marfa, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 surrounded by her loving family, Lucy was 88.
Lucy was born on December 9, 1927 to Thomas and Isadora Laugheed in Marfa, Texas, Lucy was a lifelong resident of Marfa.
Lucy was a very humble and independent woman. Being self-taught all of her life, at the age of eight years old, Lacy taught herself how to read and write by reading comic books. Lucy loved being around her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren laugh and play and watching them participate in the various activates that the grandchildren have been involved in.
Lucy was an amazing cook, with her signature dishes of tamales and chile rellenos that have been ordered and delivered as far as New York, New York. Lucy also served on the bereavement meal committee for St. Mary's Catholic Church cooking her favorite green chile enchiladas. As well as being an amazing cook, Lucy also ironed for various citizens of the Big Bend Area. She was known for her excellent ironing skills as well as cooking her own starch for ironing.
Lucy had an amazing green thumb, avid collector and loved sewing. Lucy's favorite companions during her life were the various dogs that were given to her and that she cared for during her life.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, April 8th, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Sister Margie reciting Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Deacon Paul Lister officiating. Burial will follow at Marfa Catholic Cemetery.
Lucy is preceded in death by her husband Rafael Morales, her parents, her son Ruben Bustillos her brother John Laugheed and her daughter Janie Wright.
She is survived by her sons Albert Bustillos of Gardendale, Texas and Rolando Bustillos of Odessa, Texas; her daughters Virginia Velasco of Phoenix, Arizona, Rose Granado and Barbara Valenzuela both of Alpine, Texas; her sisters Damas Montez and Helen Moody both of Laramie, Wyoming, as well as seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lucy is also survived by her special friends Frankie Quintanar, Frances and Pete Frias, Jamie Pena-Alfaro, Chevo and Lupita Ramirez and Valda Livingston.
The Morales family has entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with funeral arrangements.
