Manuel Gallego Ybarra, affectionately known as "Manny", "Mel," or "Popo" was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 8, 1939, in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico, Manuel later made his home in Alpine, Texas.
Throughout his life, Manuel was dedicated to hard work. He began his career with Coca-Cola in delivery and sales before transitioning into the chemical sales industry. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-own and operate Alpine Pest Control, where he became well-known for his commitment to excellence.
One of Manuel's most endearing qualities was his warm personality. He was generous, kind, and outgoing—able to converse easily with anyone and form deep connections with those around him. His friendly presence made him a familiar figure in Alpine, where he touched many lives.
Outside of work, Manuel had a passion for music and was proud to be a part of a mariachi group. He enjoyed singing and working outdoors in his yard. His love for games was evident in his enjoyment of poker, board games, and bowling. Additionally, he loved fishing and was a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins, often sharing his knowledge of the team's statistics with friends and family.
Manuel is survived by his devoted wife, Maria Flora Ybarra; his sons, Miguel, Manuel Jr., and Oscar Ybarra; his daughter, Alma Ybarra Campo, his grandchildren, Angela Ybarra, Rebecca Ybarra, Kaitlin Gonzales, and Maximillian Pagels Ybarra; and his great-grandchildren, Colston and Adalee Gonzales.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jorge and Luz Ybarra; his brothers, Jorge Jr., Flavio, Hector, and Baldo Ybarra; and his sisters, Elva Natera, Virtudes Valencia, Petra Guebara, and Licha Najera.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on February 12, 2025, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine, Texas, from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. A Rosary service will follow at 9:30 a.m., and a Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place after the funeral Mass at Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine.
