Manuela Ramos Cobos, 90 years old, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Alpine, Texas.
Manuela was born on June 17, 1934 in Terlingua, Texas. She was the daughter of Felipe Ramos, Sr. and Eulalia Flores Ramos, and the last surviving sibling to her sisters Eulalia Portillo, Lucia Ramirez, Ramona Parras, Paula Munoz, Cory Alvidrez, Alvina Martinez, Alta Gracia Ramos and her brothers Felipe Ramos, Jr., Alcario Ramos, Juan Ramos, Otillio Ramos, Andres Ramos, Pete Ramos, and Enrique Ramos who preceded her in death. Her father Felipe worked at the Chisos Mining Company, a historic large quicksilver mine, in Terlingua in the 1930s and he later moved the family to Shafter, Texas around 1940 where Manuela went to school in her early childhood years. Eventually, Felipe moved the family to Alpine, Texas, where Manuela attended middle school at Centennial School.
Manuela married the late Ben Cobos, Jr. on April 2, 1955, in Alpine. They had a total of eleven children, Gracie Cobos Davila, Felix Cobos, Virginia Cobos Caballero, Ben Cobos III, Oscar Cobos, Raymond Cobos, Gloria Cobos, Felipe Cobos, Clovis Cobos, David Cobos, and Lori Cobos. They have twenty-four grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Manuela and her late husband Ben leave behind a strong legacy.
Manuela was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a strong, beautiful, sweet, caring, hardworking, resourceful, and faithful woman who had a tremendous love for her husband Ben and her family, and had the biggest heart for everyone (including her cats and kittens and favorite cat “Baby”). Strong in faith until the end, Manuela instilled her deep faith in her family. She always told her children and loved ones, “pon todo en las manos de Dios” (put everything in God’s hands) and “todo el tiempo pon a Dios primero” (always put God first). When talking about the future, she always said “si Dios es servido” (if it’s the Lord’s will).
Manuela, our mom (“nuestra madrecita”), is the strongest, most loving woman that we will ever know. We will deeply miss her loving hugs and kisses, beautiful-cute smile and sparkling eyes, sense of humor, and unconditional love. We will tremendously miss her for the rest of our lives.
