Maria Moreno

September 26, 1931 — May 11, 2019

Maria Margarita "Mage" Lafarelle Moreno lifelong resident of Alpine, TX, departed her mortal life to begin her endeavor with the Lord as an intercessor for her family on May 11, 2019 in Alpine, TX. She passed away with her son, James, and daughter, Anna, by her side who were also her devoted caretakers. She was 87.
Born on June 26, 1931 in Alpine, TX to Alberto and Beatriz Moreno. Margaret lived a life devoted to her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Alberto and Beatriz Moreno, husband Sotero Morin, her brothers Armando and Alfredo "Pelon" Moreno, son Euginio "Jimmy" Moreno, and grandson Edward Valenzuela III.
Those left to cherish and honor her loving memory are her son James Moreno of Alpine, her daughters Norma Valenzuela of Roswell, NM, Beatriz Greising of Lexington, MD, Chris Aranda of El Paso, TX, Anna Moreno-Cobos and husband Jerry Cobos of Alpine her brother Martin "Tito" Moreno and wife Dalia of Artesia, NM, 12 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Praying of the Most Holy Rosary will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic church in Alpine. A traditional Catholic Mass will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Father Clay Hunt serving as celebrant. Graveside will be at the Holy Angels cemetery.
Those serving as pallbearers are great-grandsons Andrew Portillo and Matthew Portillo both of Midland, TX, great-grandsons Devan Valenzuela and Steven Sedillo and grandson Robert Sanchez all of Roswell, NM, and grandson Jonathan Cobos of Alpine, TX. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Johnny Valenzuela and Duane Valenzuela both of Roswell, NM.
As a young woman, Margaret worked alongside her brothers and father and learned many trades that included construction, plumbing, electrical, and masonry all while maintaining her motherly duties. These trades sere beneficial in giving her the ability to care for not only her brothers but also in raising her own children as single mother. Margaret was a bold, courageous woman of faith who persevered and battled through many obstacles. She spent most of her young life caring for her father and family business. She also worked as a store manager in local retail up until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, crafts, puzzles, word search, knitting and sewing. As the matriarch of her family, she has set a profound precedent of hard work, dedication, honesty, love and compassion for her for her family to follow. Margaret maintained her spirit and faith up until her very last breath when she was called to her Heavenly Home.
