Robert G. Hartnett, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully departed this world on November 24, 2024, at the age of 87, in his hometown of Fort Davis, Texas. Born June 5, 1937, Robert's life was a journey characterized by his deep affection for family, unwavering work ethic, and passionate pursuits.
For 24 years, Robert dedicated himself to The University of Texas at Austin, where he began as a night assistant and later served as a janitor at the McDonald Observatory. His commitment to hard work was evident, and he took great pride in maintaining the grounds and facilities. Robert's dedication to his job exemplified his character--a man who cherished responsibility and service to others.
Robert was more than just a diligent worker; he was a sports enthusiast and a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, finding joy and camaraderie in cheering for his team. He also had a profound love for the outdoors, often enjoying quality time in his yard or watching old-time Western movies and shows that transported him back to simpler times. Robert had a fondness for drinking Pepsi and indulging in pan dulce, savoring the sweeter moments in life.
Family was at the heart of Robert's existence. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elidia Hartnett, and their children, Juan Robert "Duke" Hartnett and his wife Donel, Lisa M. Hartnett, Ramon "Hammer" Hartnett and his wife Velvet, and Erica L. Hartnett and her husband Johnny Najera. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Marcus A. Hartnett and his wife Kari, Isabel Najera, and Mia Najera, as well as his great-grandchildren, Emmitt Hartnett and Emersyn Hartnett. Robert also leaves behind his brother, Frank Hartnett.
While Robert's father, Ramon Hartnett, his mother, Consuelo Hartnett, and his brother, Roy Hartnett, preceded him in death, their memories and love will continue to resonate with in the family he cherished so dearly.
A visitation will be held in Robert's honor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Davis on November 30, 2024, starting at 9:00 AM, followed by the recitation of the most Holy Rosary beginning at 10:00 AM and a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. He will be laid to rest at St. Joseph's Cemetery, where his journey will continue among the stars he so admired and loved.
Robert G. Hartnett will be remembered as a steadfast pillar of love and kindness in the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. His spirit will be forever etched in the hearts of his family and the community he served.
