Tana Surratt

September 19, 1942 — February 19, 2023

Marfa, Texas

Tana Harper Surratt of Marfa Texas passed away at her ranch surrounded by loved ones on February 19, 2023. Tana was well known, respected, and feared in the rodeo arena and always had a fighting spirit when it came to rodeo and this fighting spirit is how Tana will be remembered in her final days. Tana was a World Champion Optional Racer in 1960, AJRA All Around Cowgirl in 1961 and Champion Optional Roper in 1962.

Tana and her sister Amy were their Mother and Daddy's main source of help and inspiration for having fine horses. Many times her Daddy, Ted Harper would say he couldn't have raised any tougher cowboys than his girls. Tana loved the ranching way of life and she and her husband Johnny spent their lives raising cattle and horses as well as their three daughters at their ranch in Marfa. There was no place she would rather be than enjoying friends and a West Texas sunset on the patio at her home.

Tana remained very close to many of her childhood friends who were lovingly known as the Marfa Chicks. Traditionally getting together for a class reunion at least once a year, she cherished these friendships and gathered strength from these unbreakable bonds.

Tana is preceded in death by her husband Johnny, her parents Ted and Frances Harper, her sister Amy Harper Stephens, and her son in-law Robert Weyerts. Tana is survived by her daughters Amy Surratt Weyerts, Mya Surratt Craven and her husband Kelly and Tana Surratt Dumas and her husband Mike. Tana had four grandchildren that she cherished, Ryon and Colby Holt and Keith and Shannon Weyerts.

Pallbearers will be Ryon Holt, Colby Holt, Keith Weyerts, Kelly Craven, Mike Dumas and Mem Hal. Honorary pallbearers will be Cleat Stephens, Sam Stephens and Sandy Stephens. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marfa, Texas with graveside services following at Surratt Ranch.
