Thomas Dennis Santry, 83, of Alpine, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Big Bend Regional Medical Center.
Tom was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 25, 1930 to Teresa Cecelia Hoban and Thomas Dennis Santry Sr. He married Vivian Frances Williams in 1959. The have 4 children.
After graduating from Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland, Tom was drafted into the Army. He attended Texas Western College UTEP where he earned a B.A. in Business. He went on to earn a M.A. in Medical Facilities Management from Webster College.
Throughout the years Tom worked as an accountant for El Paso natural Gas, a business manager for Hotel Dieu Hospital in El Paso, and an assistant administrator at El Paso Doctors Hospital. He was the administrator of Val Verde Memorial Hospital in Del Rio, Texas, for 10 years, and of Brewster County Hospital in Alpine for 2 years. He served as the Brewster County Emergency Management Coordinator from 20042013. Tom was selected as the Del Rio Man of the Year in 1980. He was a devout Catholic and a member of The Knights of Columbus.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Teresa Cecilia and Thomas Dennis Santry Sr. and his son, Paul Brian Santry.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vivian Santry, his daughters Terry Mendez of San Antonio, Texas Karen Gallego and husband JJ, and Lori Hubbell of Alpine, Texas. Sister Kathleen Music and husband Monty of Denver, Colorado his brothers Patrick Santry of Green Valley, Arizona, and Michael Santry of Mesilla, New Mexico. He also leaves behind the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Megan Mendez, Erin Gallego, Kathryn Gallego, and Justin Hubbell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary and Mass service was held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 10 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2014 and burial was held in El Paso, Texas at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
